Why I left a successful career to start Alderley.

There is a moment in most careers when you realise that the environment you are working in is no longer the right vehicle for the work you want to do.

For me, that moment had been building for some time.

After more than thirty years advising some of the most successful individuals and families in the country, I knew what genuinely good advice looked like. I had seen it work — and I had seen what happened when the structure around an adviser quietly worked against it. Approved lists that weren’t always the right lists. Commercial priorities that weren’t always the client’s priorities. Frameworks that were nobody’s fault but nobody’s solution either.

Independence was the only honest answer.

Alderley was not built to be bigger or faster than what came before. It was built to be better — in the specific sense that matters most. Every decision we make is made for one reason: because it is right for the client in front of us. No other consideration enters the room.

That is a simple idea. In practice, it requires the kind of structure that most employed advisers never get to work within.

Building Alderley has been the most demanding and most rewarding thing I have done in a long career. I am proud of what it stands for. I hope that comes through in every conversation we have.
